Tuesday, 25th January, 2011: Benefits for Business and Workers (BBW) project aims at improving productivity, HR systems and Communication in the garment factories in India and Bangladesh. The project is supported by leading UK high street retailers and RAGS fund set by DFID, Government of UK. In 2011 the project will be implemented by Imapctt and RBC in ten garment factories in India and Bangladesh. The participating retailers include TESCO, Marks & Spencer, New Look, Arcadia, Mothercare and Sainsburry's.

RBC would be responsible of training and implementation support on productivity improvement, lean management principles, where as Impactt would concentrate on HR and Communication systems.

High working hours in garment factories has been a challenge for manufacturers and brands for many years. The project aims to address some of the root causes of high working hours such as high absenteeism, labour turnover, performance linked wages and improving worker management communication channels. This will create the environment for sustainable productivity improvement. The gains of the productivity improvement will then be shared with workers so that they get rewarded for working efficiently and reducing excessive overtime. .
