Apparel
Training and Design Centre, the largest network of training centres for
apparel industry in India has joined hands with Rajesh Bheda Consulting
to receive Training of Trainers program to adopt international best
practices for improving the training effectiveness. RBC has already
conducted three Train the trainer programs in Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai
and the fourth program will be held in Bhuvaneshwar. The specially
designed program for the needs of ATDC is directed by Prof. Rajesh
Bheda and implemented by Mr. Paul Collyer, International Expert Trainer
of RBC from UK. These programmes are designed to enable the Sewing
Machinist trainers of ATDC to:
• Devise an intensive machinist training programme to reduce the lead
time for trainees to start producing with required performance levels
and quality standards.
• Improve productivity by examining handling skills (methods), low cost work aids and work place layout.
• Realise the potential of low performers.
• Develop operator skills, to improve their ability to cope with style change, and changes of operation.
The programmes exposed ATDC trainers to radically new concepts that
improve the effectiveness of training, especially the speed and
efficiency and precision of sewing machine operators.
The ATDC-RBC cooperation also involves reviewing the current
training pedagogy and techniques and modes of upgrading them to meet
the industry expectations. The programme also created a new Skills for
Manufacturing Apparels through Research & Training (SMART) training
programme philosophy, approach and delivery system.
In recent years, the Indian apparel industry has faced acute skill
shortage. The workforce currently available is also not skilled enough
as majority of it has learned through on the job training or trial and
error method. Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) through its
network of over 50 centres has played a significant role in training
manpower for the industry. Recognising ATDCs leadership position Govt
of India has appointed ATDC as a nodal agency for implementation of
Skill Up-gradation scheme in garment sector. ATDCs adoption of RBCs
training methodology is likely to bring a new paradigm in training
workforce for the garment industry.
